Indigo No. 3

$37.00
Sold Out

100 gram of 4 ply (fingering weight), 8 ply (DK weight) and 10 ply (worsted weight) South Australian Polwarth wool. Hand dyed in our natural indigo vat resulting in a deep sky blue. 390m 4 ply, 190m 8 ply, and 120m 10 ply. Dye from the indigo plant is insoluble in water so we make a reduction vat which transforms the dye to a soluble form and it is a joy to work with. We run workshops on making your own natural dyes including indigo, see Events.

Our wool is of exceptional quality and handles beautifully. Raised and dyed in South Australia. Scoured, milled and spun in Victoria. This is uniquely 100% Australian made and natural. All of our colours beautifully contrast with one another and can be matched for colourwork, naturally complimentary like nature intended.

Colour is light and wash fast thanks to the natural qualities of the plant. We strive for colour consistency however, with nature our colours can vary. If you require exactly the same colour for one project please purchase together to ensure skeins are from the same batch. Our skeins can have some colour variation with the plant colour bonding to the wool at different densities, this knits up beautifully providing some colour depth.

Some colour may wear on your hands when knitting or when initially washed. This is called crocking (click on crocking to find out more). This will settle and should not change the colour of your wool. Please handle our wool with care. Proudly we do not treat our wool with super wash or easy care treatment so always hand wash, use a gentle and environmentally friendly wool wash and dry flat out of direct sunlight.

Our wool comes in skeins but if you prefer a ball, please let us know at Checkout in the Note section and we’ll wind it for you. Wool orders shipped Wednesdays.
